David and Kathryn Gerhard have lived and worked in Flagstaff since 1998. Here they started Roof Dancers, the chimney and hearth shop selling and repairing wood, gas and pellet stoves.

They began holding annual Read Aloud Contests in order to encourage young people to read aloud at home by logging their reading time and entering to win  prizes. This contest was popularized via the Fourth of July parade where they decorated a float and handed out entry forms.

It wasn't long before David began teaching public speaking to the children at the Flagstaff Community Christian School, training children to feel comfortable with their ability to express themselves in front of an audience.

They present  annual Bible readings on the steps of City Hall in Flagstaff. The Bible Marathon hosts 365 volunteers to read 15 minutes each around the clock for 72 hours. Old and young alike read the Word of God aloud over the city.
